Barbara Schroeder has a Bachelor of Arts and Masters in Education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, specializing in watercolor. In addition, she received a BFA degree in Interior Design from Iowa State University. Currently she is teaching K-6 art in a public school in Omaha. She has worked with special needs students in art and related areas for over thirty years. Since 1971, she has been exhibiting art in galleries and art shows. As a teacher, she hopes to help students explore many media in art. Her goal is to encourage students to develop their imagination, creativity, and express individual ideas. The artwork created by the students can be temporary or become a permanent addition to a school or community. Past projects have included banners, quilts, wall murals, historic canvas paintings, and permanent theme boards for gymnasiums. She is willing to work with age groups Kindergarten through 12th grade. She is also willing to work with Community Groups or Senior Citizens. Barbara is also available for residencies with a focus on architecture. Her architectural projects will introduce students to the three-dimensional process of designing buildings, and studying interior spaces. Students will study the importance of how spaces are used, and how climate and location affect the design process of the building. Projects have included creating historical structures, tree houses, restaurants, space stations, and moveable shelters to name a few. Students of all ages will enjoy the artistic challenge of architecture and creating three-dimensional spaces. Barbara is available for summer programs and during the school year she is available on nights and weekends in the Omaha area.
