David Helm, Sculpture
December 21, 2009 - January 29, 2010
Friday, January 8th, 5-7 p.m.
David Helm's newest body of work, From the Queen's Lab, explores his continued interest in the authority of history. His fascination with nostalgia, flight, alchemy, energy, design and experimentation, are played out through the creation of seemingly functional antique objects. He has redesigned Napoleon’s campaign bed, invented a “Lead Head” breathing device, and, among other works, has crafted an oversized pinwheel. Helm’s archaic and absurd low-tech quasi inventions intend to nudge the imagination and tweak our conscience.
This exhibit was funded by the University of Nebraska at Omaha University Committee on Research and Creative Activity.
