Since 1979, the Nebraska Arts Council, in partnership with the Governor of Nebraska, has recognized Nebraska arts organizations, arts professionals and the people and businesses that support the arts in Nebraska with a gala event and an award created by a Nebraska artist. The luncheon and awards presentation event includes live performances by Nebraska artists and arts advocacy opportunities such as workshops and networking sessions.
The Governor’s Arts Awards luncheon event is held biannually in Lincoln, Nebraska’s state capital. Nebraskans for The Arts and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment partner with the Nebraska Arts Council in hosting the event.

Emerging Leader
An individual artist, arts administrator or patron who has made a significant impact on the arts in Nebraska in a short period of time. This award is limited to individuals 35 years or younger or individuals who have been working in the field for five years or less.

An individual that has made a long term outstanding contribution to arts education in Nebraska
Gospel Music Workshop, Omaha
Heritage Arts Award
An individual or organization which exemplifies authenticity and excellence within a cultural tradition

Organizational Achievement Award
An arts organization that demonstrates achievements at a consistently high level of excellence in programming and outreach

Leonard Thiessen Award
The Leonard Thiessen Award is named for the founder of the Nebraska Arts Council and is awarded to an individual or organization in the community that typify the highest degree of commitment to the arts in Nebraska.
