FELLOWSHIPS
The NAC Individual Artist Fellowships (IAF) program recognizes exemplary achievements by Nebraska artists. The IAF program supports originating artists in their respective fields by providing public recognition and monetary awards.

2010 Discipline Review: Visual Arts
The IAF program rotates among various artistic disciplines, including Visual Arts, Literature, and Filmmaking and Performing Arts. The 2011 Performing Arts/Filmmaking application information will be posted on this page in August, 2010.

The Visual Arts discipline is the focus for the award year 2010, and includes the following media categories. Applicants apply in only one of the designated categories:

  • Craft: Ceramics, Fiber, Glass
  • Mixed Media
  • Painting/Drawing
  • Photography
  • Printmaking
  • Sculpture/Installation

Awards
Awards are funded according to the federal resources annually available and are provided as follows:

  • $5,000 Distinguished Artist Award
  • $2,000 Merit Award
  • $1,000 Merit Award

Federal monies are subject to tax regulations. Award winners should contact their local Internal Revenue Service office or their tax advisor for additional information.

This is a competitive program based on a professional peer review process. Applicants are adjudicated according to the merit of their work by three jurors selected for their expertise as established career professionals in the artistic discipline under consideration. Evaluation criteria are based on the quality of the work, which includes innovation demonstrated by significant critical and aesthetic considerations explored through the art form. The review is conducted by jurors living outside the state of Nebraska utilizing an anonymous application format.

Eligibility
  • The applicant must be 19 years old or older and a resident of the state of Nebraska for two years prior to the application date. To receive an IAF award, the recipient must submit proof of residency via a notarized affidavit of residency which will be kept on file at NAC offices.

Online Application Process
The IAF program is conducted using SlideRoom, an online review system.  Applicants register and submit their application materials on the SlideRoom website using the Nebraska Arts Council’s portal.  SlideRoom is web-based, so all applicants need is an Internet connection and a modern web browser.
