Mike Mennard, children's recording artist and author, travels the country to perform a program of music and poetry. A literature professor at Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, Mike offers concerts or literacy workshops.

Workshop Options:
• Poetry-to-song: Mike works with the students to create a poem, which he then puts to music and teaches it to the class.
• Nebraska History: Through poems, stories and songs, Mike takes 4th grade students through the Nebraska curriculum. This workshop is based on his CD We’ve Got it All in Nebraska.
• Pirate History and Legends: Were pirates all bad? What was it like to be a pirate on the high seas? Did Blackbeard really set his beard on fire before he fought battles? Mike presents an overview of the history and legend of pirates in a lighthearted way and shares chants and songs from the time of pirates. This workshop is based on his CDs Pirates Do the Darnedest Things and It’s a Pirate’s World.

Concerts are 45 minutes long; workshops last approximately 4-6 hours. Content can be modified for grades K-6.

Technical Requirements: Mike provides his own sound system, does not require lighting, and needs a space of Requirements: 7' by 12' to perform with the accompanying musicians. This can be flexible based on the space-that is, longer and narrower, square, etc.

Fees: $1100 per engagement

Availability: Mike is a college professor, so that does provide some flexibility from semester to semester. Occasionally he will not have classes on certain days, which provides the opportunity to tour more in that semester. However, that is not predictable. So we may have more availability than follows: August-May: Monday-Friday, 5-9 pm, no more than 100 miles one way. Sundays, 8am-9pm, any location in Nebraska is acceptable. June-July: 8am-9pm daily.
