J. Marlene Mueller, Painting, 3/27/07 - 5/5/07

J. Marlene Mueller focuses on Wayne, Nebraska, as well as her experiences within the Wayne Volunteer Fire Department as a firefighter in most of her work. Yet, her interests with Wayne have more to do with formal approaches in picture making than her sentimental attachments to it. She paints series of colored dots to create her imagery, rather than traditional brushstrokes. In effect, Mueller creates a new way to identify the geography of the city through tightly orchestrated patterns and shapes.

Mueller received her B.A. from from Limestone College in South Carolina and her M.A. and M.F.A. from Miami University in Ohio. Currently, she is a professor of art at Wayne State College.
