Posted on 03/30/2012
The 2012 Governor’s Arts Awards, a biennial event honoring artists and arts
supporters from across Nebraska, will be held the evening of April 2, 2012 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in downtown Lincoln, NE. The ceremony is sponsored by the Nebraska Arts Council, Nebraskans for the Arts and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment. This is an NET Public Media broadcast in partnership with The Nebraska Arts Council.
This year’s theme, “The Arts Drive Nebraska”, explores Nebraska arts and culture in “modern cowboy style”: from a chopper saddle on the open road. The event will begin at 5:00 p.m. with cocktail hour and live entertainment, followed by the dinner and live broadcast awards program. Guests have been encouraged to attend in their best business or biker attire.
For the first time, the festivities will be aired live on Monday, April 2 at 7 p.m. CT on NET2 World, and will be re-broadcast on Thursday, April 19, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 22 at 1 p.m., also on NET2 World.
A live-stream of the event is available for those with Internet access at
www.netNebraska.org/television/stream on Monday, April 2 at 7 p.m. The program will also be archived for on-demand streaming at http://www.netnebraska.org/publicmedia/.
if you are in the Panhandle, drop by the Midwest Theater to view their simulcast of the event. The Board of Directors of the Midwest Theater invites their community of supporters to watch the Governor’s Arts Awards simulcast live at the Midwest Theater on Monday April 2 at 6:00pm MT. The Friends of the Midwest Theater will be receiving the Governors Arts Award for Organizational Achievement, so expect a festive atmosphere!
The program hosts include Nebraska humorist Juli Burney and Dave Heineman, Governor of Nebraska. Live entertainment will include a performance by Celtic Cabaret. Awards provided to the evening’s honorees are ceramic vessels handcrafted by Susan Dewsnap, an artist based in Lincoln and a photograph by Larry Ferguson of Omaha for the recipient of the Leonard Thiessen award. Complete details on the event can be found in our Governor's Arts Awards section of the website.
