David McLeod, Painting & Drawing (Omaha):
May 9 – June 8, 2012
My work stems from an interest in the perception of marks by the viewer. Sometimes these are very bold and plain and other times they are more subtle. The “stamps” pieces have less of the texture but a bit more variety of light and dark on the surface and somewhat more variety of color.
In these works, there is no overt reference to naturalistic images, only the marks and textures themselves are perceived by the viewer. An intent here is to give the viewer the widest latitude to experience the information with minimal reference outside the pieces. This reduction allows the most encouragement for each imagination to wander.
In the professionally photographed images, the equipment and process of capturing the images was tested by the subtlety of these images to the point that color was “invented” where it did not exist in reality. The “rainbow” quality is the result of this process and not part of any of the images.
