2012 Nebraska Poetry Out Loud Champion Heads to Nationals

Russell Heitmann, a high school junior from Hebron, is bound for the national Poetry Out Loud championships to be held in Washington, D.C. May 14-15, 2012. Heitmann won the Nebraska Poetry Out Loud state championship on Saturday, March 10th at the Sheldon Museum of Art in Lincoln.
NET Radio (Nebraska's NPR network) is running a story on Saturday, May 5, at 8:30am, and repeat Sunday, May 6 at 9:30am. The story will also appear on our website, netnebraska.org/radio.
The Nebraska Arts Council coordinates Poetry Out Loud for the state. It is part of a national program, presented in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance, and competition.
You can watch Russell in the one-time only live streaming webcast sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts. Nebraska will compete in the Second Semifinal round on Monday, May 14, beginning at 12:00 p.m CDT. Complete details on the internet media coverage are provided below.

The final competition will include the top nine students from the three semi-finals.
Mark your calendars for POL 2013: The 2013 Poetry Out Loud national finals dates are set for April 29-30, 2013 in Washington, DC. The 2013 Nebraska state finals will be held at the Sheldon Museum of Art in Lincoln on Saturday, March 9th.
